Company presentation
Log’in by Daher is the innovation acceleration platform for the logistics of the future created by Daher. It is a unique place for collaboration and experimentation dedicated to the logistics professions. The platform is structured around the following areas: innovation, training and events.
Context
The shortage of skilled workers, the lack of attractiveness and the complexity of the logistics sector are major obstacles to recruitment. To provide a solution, Log’in by Daher has explored new training and onboarding methods to enhance skills and promote logistics professions.
The use of virtual reality was chosen as an innovative solution to offer a more immersive and engaging experience. Log’in, with the help of the Occitanie region, has created an ecosystem involving a number of players, including La Mêlée and Mimbus, to support this project.
Clients Needs
Log’in by Daher had to meet several challenges:
– Making logistics jobs more attractive to young people and jobseekers.
– Train employees and raise their awareness of the risks inherent in logistics environments in a more interactive and immersive way.
– Adopting innovative teaching technology to enable safe, collaborative and engaging learning.
– Onboarding new arrivals through realistic scenarios in which they can learn and practise in complete safety.
– Offering innovative teaching in logistics through the use of VR to create a strong pedagogical anchor.
Our Actions
Development of virtual reality training modules:
Together with Log’in by Daher, we have designed three main teaching modules:
- Discovering logistics professions: This module enables users to immerse themselves in a virtual warehouse and simulate logistics tasks such as receiving, putting into stock, preparing orders and dispatching. The aim of the course is to introduce users to the logistics professions.
- Risk hunt: the aim of this module is to raise awareness of the risks involved in logistics operations. By digitalising this module in a virtual reality environment, it gives participants the right to make mistakes. There are two formats:
-Training new recruits in these risks by creating a strong pedagogical anchor
-An immersive reminder for existing staff. - Managing logistics operations: Participants, immersed in the 16,000 m² logistics platform, will have to work in teams to manage the logistics flow. Three levels of complexity will be proposed, in which they will have to adapt, collaborate and deal with real logistics situations, simulating the challenges encountered in the warehouse.
Workshops to promote careers among young people:
Log’in by Daher has organised virtual reality workshops with secondary schools, in particular for 4th form students at the Agde secondary school. These immersive workshops enabled young people to discover the logistics professions in a fun and interactive way.
Use of the modules at events:The modules are also used at job fairs and events such as France Travail. They have also been used to organise a roadshow at certain Daher Group sites to introduce employees to VR and train them in risk avoidance (more than 100 people took part in these events at 10 sites in FR)
Challenges management linked to VR :
Use of space: Log’in modelled a 16,000 m² space in VR, recreating a complete and varied logistics environment. Thanks to digitalization, participants can move around in an extended space, offering total immersion while overcoming the physical constraints of the real space. This makes it possible to recreate complex logistical situations while enjoying the right to make mistakes in a safe environment.
Convincing the most reluctant: To overcome the reluctance of some users to try VR, group demonstrations were organised, encouraging the most sceptical to try out the technology after seeing the enthusiasm of their colleagues.
Benefits & Results
Immersive and engaging training experience: Users have appreciated the playful and realistic nature of virtual reality. The risk hunt module, for example, allows learners to experience potentially dangerous situations without any real consequences, thereby reinforcing their vigilance. The opportunity to make mistakes in complete safety encourages them to learn and remember good practice.
Improved attractiveness of logistics professions: Thanks to the VR workshops, Log’in by Daher has succeeded in capturing everyone’s attention and improving the perception of logistics professions. Feedback has shown that immersive experiences have a strong educational impact, providing a better understanding of the challenges and diversity of the jobs on offer.
Return on investment (ROI): Although difficult to quantify precisely, the impact of VR is clearly positive in terms of training and raising awareness. Trainers have pointed out that this technology makes it possible to create memorable, embedded experiences, making it easier for learners to retain information.
Widespread adoption and easy deployment: The VR solutions proved to be easy to use and relatively inexpensive to deploy. Thanks to their autonomy, they could be easily integrated into different logistics sites of the Daher Group.
Future objectives: Between now and 2025, Log’in plans to train 40 jobseekers using virtual reality and to continue extending the use of this technology to other Group sites. Log’in will also assess the impact of VR on reducing accidents and improving employee skills.
